The Guggenheim crew and I had the extreme honor of meeting Chinese contemporary art superstar, Cai Guo-Qiang on Wednesday night.
Cai is highly regarded throughout the art community for his awe-inspiring works that often address the passage of time, but most know him as the guy who blows up things—he orchestrated the pyrotechnics at the Beijing Olympics as well as the 60th anniversary of China and draws with gunpowder only to ignite his works in a performance-based spectacle.
Whatever his shtick, the man was notably down to earth and entertaining, and I’ve added this night to my list of Momentous Life Occasions.
